Breast cancer is well known to run in families. Major research over the last three decades has helped us understand the actual beast cancer risk. Only 5- to 10 percent have a real risk of the cancer being inherited. It is only human to overestimate your individual risk hence it is best to seek an expert’s opinion.
If a close relative such as your mother has cancer, it increases the risk by a factor of two.
If however multiple family members are affected it does increase the risk and needs close consideration for testing, counseling and the need to see a specialist.
So, what do you need to worry about if a family member is diagnosed with breast cancer?
